After a hard school year every pupil has summer holidays. It means that you may sleep all day and then spend your day with your friends or you may visit different countries with your family or with your classmates.
Last summer my family and I decided to go to England. I was so happy because England is one of my favourite countries and I have always wanted to visit it. So my dream came true.
We were sitting in the airport when we heard a woman’s voice saying that our flight was ready to depart. I was very excited. So after several hours of flight we arrived at Manchester Airport. There I saw how polite the British are. Soonwe came to our friend’s house which was situated in a small town Bolton, not far from Manchester. The weather was cloudy but it wasn’t cold there.
On our first day we went to London. The way to London was very long because we went by bus instead of train. So it took us 5 hours to get there.
London is a beautiful and wonderful city full of attractions. We were walking through St James Park and soon we came to a big observation wheel which is called London Eye. When we reached the top of the wheel I was able to see almost all the centre of London. The view was fantastic and I was so impressed that I thought I would never forget it. I could see The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, different bridges and other beautiful buildings. Afterwards we went to Madam Tussaud’s Museum. The most interesting thing is that we went on foot from London Eye to the Museum! We didn`t expect that we should go some kilometres through the central part of London. On the way we saw many oldand beautiful buildings. We were so tired but happy when we found it. There were a lot of wax figures of different celebrities. Wax figures are very realistic, they impressed me greatly. We took some photos with them. Then we returned to the bus station and five hours later we were already at home.
Every evening my brother, our new English friends and I played pool. I never won, because I had never played this game before. But I think I will continue my practice in playing pool and one day I will become the winner. We also played card games and I learned a lot of new ones.
The day after visiting London we went to the Pleasure Beach. It is an amusement park in Blackpool. We rode rollercoaster and it was so funny! We spent all day long in the park, but time flew so quickly that it seemed that only one hour had passed. When we come home we were very tired.
Some days later we went to the Lake District. We lived in a small house in Keswick. Keswick is a beautiful town. In the central square there is a tower with a clock at the top. Along the main road there are a lot of different shops. We visited some of them. Windermere is the largest natural lake in England. And we went there. The weather was rainy and foggy, but it didn’t prevent us from having an excursion on a boat. After the excursion we fed royal swans. One of the swans had bitten mum by a finger when she tried to feed it. We enjoyed the beauty and the nature of the Lake District. Also we tasted a famous dish “Fish and Chips” in a small and cosy cafe. We came back to Bolton.
So our trip came to an end. For two weeks I have been in love with England even stronger than before, that’s why it was sad to leave it. I decided that I will necessarily go there once again.
I am glad that one of my dreams has come true. I saw England, learned a lot of new things about its culture and history and now I have new friends.
As the old saying goes man cannot live by bread alone. Any human being needs nourishment for his soul as well. One of the places where one can get spiritual food is a museum. Museums are an essential part of any culture and society.
Last year I went to see a friend who lives in Moscow. I did an awful lot of sightseeing. I enjoyed my stay there immensely. But what 1 found absolutely unforgettable was my visit to the Tretyakov Gallery.
During the conducted tour I learned much about the museum in generaU about the life of Pavel Tretyakov, the founder of the gallery and about thi history of Russian art from the 11th century to the present days. The exposition of the museum includes a rich collection of Russian icons among which is the world-famous The Trinity painted by Andrey Rublev in 15th century. 1 marvelled at the finest works of such 18lh-century celebreties as Boroviko-vsky, Levitsky, Rokotov and Shchedrin.
Some of the halls, which deal with brilliant paintings by Brullov, Tro«l pinin, Ivanov, Venetsianov, stand out in my memory very vividly. The gallery has got the best collection of Peredvizhniki, such as Kramskoy, Perov, Ghe and others. There you can see historical paintings, portraits, landscapes, etc.
But what is more important, I received an emotional experience. Needless to say, that like any other museum, it should be taken a little at a time. The Tretyakov gallery enjoys a truly universal popularity. I wish I could visit it over and over again.
My Favourite Food Мое любимое блюдо
There is a good saying: “You are what you eat”. I think it means that we should be aware of what we are eating and choose healthy food only. There are so many products today with chemical additives and preservatives. My parents try to buy only natural products, which are nit genetically-modified. I can’t say I’m a picky eater but there are some dishes which I like and those which I don’t. For example, I can’t stand mushrooms or fish in food. Seafood is alright but boiled or fried fish is not for me. My favourite food is pasta. My parents sometimes tell me I should live in Italy, because I like all variations of this food, be it boiled, fried, with sauce or without, with bacon, with cheese, with vegetables, etc. My most favourite dish is Carbonara. It’s a pasta-based dish with white sauce, bacon and parmesan cheese. I can eat it three times a day and never get bored. It’s not difficult to cook. You just need half a kilo spaghetti, several slices of bacon, 1 onion, 1 garlic clove, some olive oil, 2 or 3 eggs, a pinch of salt and pepper, some grated Parmesan cheese and 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley. Spaghetti needs to be boiled in salted water, then drained well and tossed with a tablespoon of olive oil. For the sauce we need to cook chopped bacon on a large pan until it’s slightly crispy. Then we add chopped onion and minced garlic clove, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and cook it for a minute. Then we add beaten eggs into the pan, some cheese, salt and pepper and cook it constantly tossing. When the sauce is ready it’s added to spaghetti. The dish is sprinkled with chopped parsley and additional cheese. It is served immediately, while it’s hot. I have tried to cook Carbonara according to this recipe and it came out to be rather tasty. Мое самое любимое блюдо – Карбонара. Это блюдо на основе пасты с белым соусом, беконом и сыром пармезан. Я могу есть его три раза в день, и оно мне никогда не надоедает. Его не трудно приготовить. Все, что нужно, так это полкило спагетти, несколько ломтиков бекона, 1 луковица, 1 зубчик чеснока, немного оливкового масла, 2 или 3 яйца, щепотка соли и перца, тертый сыр пармезан и 2 столовые ложки свежей нарезанной петрушки. Спагетти нужно вскипятить в подсоленной воде, затем процедить и добавить в него столовую ложку оливкового масла. Для соуса нужно поджарить нарезанный бекон на большой сковороде, до тех пор, пока он не станет слегка хрустящим. Затем мы добавляем нарезанный лук и измельченный зубчик чеснока, 1 столовую ложку оливкового масла, и готовим все это в течение минуты. Затем мы добавляем в сковороду взбитые яйца, немного сыра, соли и перца и готовим часто переворачивая. Когда соус готов, его добавляют к спагетти. Блюдо посыпают нарезанной зеленью петрушки и дополнительным сыром. Подавать нужно сразу, пока не остыло. Я пару раз пробовала готовить Карбонара в соответствии с этим рецептом, и получалось довольно вкусно
