The flag of Russia is a three coloured flag consisting of three equal horizontal fields: white on the top, blue in the middle and red on the bottom.
A flag is the country’s main symbol as well as the anthem and coat of arms.
The history of the flag comes from 1697 when Tsar Peter I visited the Netherlands. He liked the simple design of the Dutch flag and used the same colours for the Russian flag. Through the years the flag had been changed, removed and brought back again until on August 21, 1991, when the original design from Peter the Great was re-adopted officially in December 1991.
(when Russia became a member of the United Nations.)
Though there is no official distinctive meaning for the colours of the flag some believe white stands for peace and generosity, blue stands for truth, loyalty and wisdom and red stands for strength, courage and love.
In 1994 the National Flag Day was established in Russia. It is celebrated on 22 August, but people work on this day.
Hello Sam,
We are having a great time here in the Lake District-hot, sunny weather and fantastic scenery. Yesterday, we went for a long bike ride. When we got back, we went swimming in the lake. Tomorrow, we're going on a boat trip and then visiting a castle. This holiday is going too fast- I'll be home next week. What a shame!
With love,(твоё имя)
