In the 1760s land-hungry American settlers ' moving to the west were stopped by the Appalachian Mountains. These mountains were covered with thick forests and ran parallel to the Atlantic coast of North America. They stretched for hundreds of miles.
A hunter and an explorer Daniel Boone with thirty other men cut a road through the mountains. Behind the Appalachians there was rich vast land.
Thousands of new settlers moved there. They founded the American states of Kentucky and Tennessee .
