Natural DisastersПриродные катастрофыNatural disasters such as flood, fire, tornado, earthquake, tsunamis are becoming more and more frequent on our planet. In short description a natural disaster is a result of a natural hazard, which has a negative effect on human beings. These geologic processes can lead to serious consequences such as loss of life, property damage, economic problems. Certain areas are more exposed to natural disasters. For example, most of New Zealand’s coastline is exposed to tsunami hazard, while the Far East region is exposed to floods. Being aware of possible dangers, people should be prepared to protect themselves, their families and communities. Two important preparation steps are the developing of emergency plan and assembling a supply kit. However, all the known disasters have unique nature and should be approached separately. Some of the common natural hazards are as follows: earthquake, flood, drought, heat wave, hurricane, volcanic eruption, hailstorm, tornado, tsunami, landslide, wildfire, blizzard. I’d like to tell you a bit more about floods, hurricane and earthquakes. A flood is an overflow of water that submerges land. In severe cases it can result in human and animal deaths. Very often the crops are destroyed, which brings famine. A hurricane is a severe tropical cyclone or storm that often occurs in certain parts of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This destructive hazard can lead to changes in weather and economy. It can also result in heavy rains, thunderstorm, flood or even tornado. An earthquake is the result of a sudden collision among the tectonic plates of the Earth. Such collision leads to massive and occasionally deathly vibrations. However, learning about these specific threats and the measures, which should be taken, can save many lives.

We are all looking forward to school holidays during the school year. There are four main types of school vacation: winter, spring, summer and autumn. The longest vacation falls on the summer and lasts three months. Winter holidays last for almost two weeks. Spring and autumn vacations last only a week. It is not a long time, but I always enjoy your vacation and try to spend them having fun. This spring break was full of positive emotions. At first my parents wanted to go to warmer climes and to take me with him, but then changed his mind. My uncle, who lives in Novokuznetsk, invited us to his, and my parents gladly agreed. It is far from Moscow, but in the end we didn't regret it. To save time, my dad offered to get there by plane. The flight lasted about four hours. The same day we arrived, my uncle showed us the local sights. I must admit that the city is quite beautiful. We saw Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral and the monument to Suvorov. When we got back, my uncle's wife, aunt Zoe, has prepared for us a delicious dinner consisting of rice pilaf. For dessert they had sweet cakes with tea. Spending time in Novokuznetsk, I learned that many prominent people lived and worked in this city. For example, the famous poet Bardin, Explorer of Siberia – Spassky, singer and actress Elena Kamburova, a Soviet football player Zinchenko. I was delighted to learn that in Novokuznetsk has its own hockey team and one of the best Rugby leagues in Russia. Sorry we could not stay longer at least for another week, because soon we had to return home. My spring break is over and Monday I started school.
