Catherine the Great was the longest-ruling female leader of Russia. She was born in Prussia in 1729. She became an empress of Russia as a result of palace revolution. Catherine made serfs more rightless. And she gave more rights to noblemen. She increased the borders of our country. She reformed the state management. Many new cities and towns were founded on her orders. She liked to collect paintings. Catherine left many writings after herself. She developed architecture, music and painting in Russia. Catherine is also known by her love affairs. The most famous of her lovers are Grigory Orlov and Grigory Potemkin. In 1764 Catherine founded the first school for girls Smolny Institute in Saint Petersburgh. The Catherinian Era is often considered the Golden Age of the Russian Empire.
