New Year is a special holiday, which is loved and cherished by nearly every child in the world. Children are especially keen on this day as they get extra attention from the grown-ups and from Ded Moroz, of course. Each year I celebrate the beginning of the year with my family. It is well-known that New Year and Christmas are family-type holidays. That’s why we all gather at home in the evening for the festive meal. As the clock strikes twelve, grown-ups toast with a glass of champagne to the coming year. Then we leave the house and go straight towards the square to watch the colorful fireworks. The night of New Year is full of exciting developments. I especially like when there is snow outside, but that doesn’t happen every year in our region.

His friend Dr Watson, was standing near the window looking at a walking stick. This stick had been forgotten by a strange visitor the day before. The words "To Dr Mortimer" was written on it. Dr Watson had already been examining it for half an hour but he couldn't say anything about it. Suddenly Sherlock Holmes said: The owner of this stick has a dog which is larger than a terrier. I have noticed the marks of a dog's teeth on the stick.' Probably the dog often carrys the stick behind the master,' he added. 'I wonder why this man wanted to visit us,' asked Dr Watson. 'Well, we shall soon know,' answered Sherlock Holmes. 'I can hear the bell ringing.' "</span>
