Используйте present perfect continuous, когда действие было временным и длилось какой-то определённый промежуток времени.
Например, одно дело, когда Вы говорите "Я прочитал книгу". По-английски это будет "I have read a book", - present perfect. Действие произошло когда-то в прошлом, протяжённость не указана.
А теперь так: "Я читал эту книгу две недели". Теперь уже указан временной промежуток: "две недели". И по-английски Вы скажете: "I have been reading this book for two weeks".
