Yekaterinburg is known as the city which stands in two parts of the world, on the border between Europe and Asia. The heart of the city is the so-called Plotinka (the 300-year-old water dam). This is the place where the old iron works used to be. The dam separates the Iset River from the City Pond which is actually the same Iset but much wider.
