Просторечие - специфичное явление русского языка, повсеместно в нём распространённое. Но, тем не менее, строгого определения данного явления на данный момент нет. В последнее время его элементы попадают в речь самых различных слоёв общества. Возникает необходимость более чётко сформулировать представление о просторечии. Полноценное восприятие его может быть осуществлено при рассмотрении его не как анормативного факта или нарушения общих норм, а с точки зрения структурно-функционального подхода. В этой работе осуществлена попытка дать объективную характеристику просторечия, выявить, какова роль его в русской речи.
