I would like to tell you a few words about the Great Patriotic War which took place more than seventy years ago. This war took the lives of millions Soviet people. The whole country defended our Motherland from the Nazis. Everybody took part in the battles even women and children. In May, 1945 the war ended with the great victory of our people. It was the
happiest day in the life of my country. Now the ninth of May is
celebrated in every city and village in Russia as a great holiday. Many cities were awarded
with the title of hero cities. But veterans of that terrible war are
becoming less and less. I think we should help them to live in dignity
and respect their age and merits before our Motherland.
