Dear Sandra,
i hope you're well. i'm in Hollywood! everywhere i go i see actors that i recognize because this is where many of the best stars live. i saw Julia Roberts this morning. she is shorter than i imagined; in fact she's not as tall as me. but she is very beautiful, and i think she's even more beautiful in real life than in her films.
Hollywood is an expensive place, though. can you believe i paid $4 for a bottle of water? i think the people here must be a lot richer than people back home. yesterday we paid $30 to see a comedy show, but i have to say the comedian was the best i've ever seen. i love hollywood. i think it's the best place on earth. i don't want to leave, but we're returning on Sunday evening. so, see you soon,
love,
adele
Born December 16, 1929 in the city of Semipalatinsk, (now - East Kazakhstan region, Kazakhstan) in a family where music often sounded, my father loved to play the violin, the mother of the Tatar singing well. But in 1937 his father was arrested in Katon-Karagai and he disappeared forever. Young Tulegenova, studying in the seventh grade of evening school, went to work at a meat-packing plant, where she could sing in a circle of amateur performances. The well-known Soviet writer Galina Serebryakova, the author of novels about Karl Marx, who was in exile in Semipalatinsk, drew attention to the young singer. She took Tulegenova's tutelage, gave her first music lessons. Then, at the insistence of Serebryakova Tulegenova, she went to the city of Alma-Ata (now Almaty), then the capital of the Kazakh SSR, to study at the local conservatory in the vocal choir department. While studying in 1951, a student of the Alma-Ata Conservatory was invited to work as a soloist of the Kazakh radio, where she performed popular folk and variety songs. In 1954, Tulegenova graduated from the Alma-Ata Conservatoire.
