Это легкое заболевание, сопровождающееся слабой (субфебрильной) лихорадкой, болью за ушами из-за увеличения лимфоузлов и умеренной красноватой сыпью, которая держится всего лишь в течение одного-двух дней. Болезнь длится 2-3 дня и не требует лечения. Однако, если беременная женщина заражается краснухой в течение первых трех месяцев беременности, существует высокая опасность рождения ребенка с врожденными уродствами. При такой возможности по рекомендации врача разрешается произвести искуственное прерывание беременности. К счастью, большинство матерей уже переболели краснухой в детстве.
Обычно, после перенесенного заболевания вырабатывается пожизненный иммунитет, хотя в редких случаях возможно повторное заражение. В настоящее время была разработана вакцина, предотвращающая заболевание краснухой.
