In 1777, Joseph Montgolfier noticed that his shirt was floating upwards, so he came to the conclusion that smoke could lift things up. Then he, with his brother Jacques, started to invent first versions of hot-air balloons. They presented their first hot-air balloon on 19th September 1783, but were afraid to ride it, so they put a sheep, a duck and a chicken in the basket which was hung below. After a two-mile journey the animals landed safely, which meant that it was safe for people as well. The first hot-air balloon flight with human passengers was on 21st November 1783, which started a long tradition of hot-air ballooning.
Dear Bill,
Thank you for your previous letter. I am awfully sorry for not written to you earlier. I had so many tasks at school that I had little free time.
In your letter you speak about problems that arise for many brothers and sisters. I think you have to find a compromise. When you want to read, she can listen to music with headphones.
I am looking forward to answer. Keep in touch.
Love,
Masha
