The
invention of super glue is a quite interesting fact. Nowadays it is almost
impossible to do without super glue: either
a handle of your cup broke off, or your shoes got ripped, or the plinth fell
off. In these and many other cases The Super Glue is our only lifesaver.
So how was
it invented? Back then it was considered a really big discovery, which was accompanied
with various myths and legends, as per usual. You won’t believe it but for a
quite long period of time it was widely believed that this glue was primarily intended
for gluing the wounds.

It is
rather weird assumption, but quite explainable, as the glue was discovered
during World War II by American scientist. By the way, it was a pure accident: in a search for materials to make clear
plastic gun sights, a team of scientists stumbled upon cyanoacrylate that stuck
to everything that it came in contact with. This discovery occurred to be very useful and was
patented in 1995. In 1959 it was already being shown on TV.
For a long time
the Super glue had been showing up on different American talk-shows, where its
new fascinating features were discovered. Cyanoacrylate could glue together
anything, even unprotected surfaces. The crucial problem of this glue is not
gluing things too tightly, but the impossibility of separating them afterwards.
