Dinosaurs ("terrible lizards") - animals belonging to the class of reptiles, subclass the archosaurs. On wet lowlands in the river valleys and along the coasts of the oceans grew ferns and horsetails, and in forests - tree ferns, conifers and Ginkgo trees. In the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods dinosaurs were very numerous and varied. About 65 million years ago in the late Cretaceous period, dinosaurs became extinct.
