My friend finished school last year. Grandfather did not work in the garden. The teacher told us an interesting story. My grandmother was in Moscow. What did you watch on TV yesterday?
Вообще-то, неплохо было бы хоть намекнуть КАКАЯ у вас любимая книга....
The title of the book is "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"
-The book was written by Roald Dahl.
-The text is about a poor boy named Charlie and his dream come true.
-The main idea of the text is that if a person is good, positive and honest, his/her dreams will come true and he/she will be happy. And the person must be devoted to his/her family and respect the elderly people.
-The author starts telling us about the main character Charlie and his family of six adults: his mother and father, his two grandfathers and two grandmothers. And that the family is so poor that they have cabbage soup for dinner and supper, too.
-The author describes the family to be very close and happy despite all the difficulties they experience.
-The main characters are Charlie and Willy Wonka, the owner of the Chocolate Factory and the greatest inventor of sweet things.
-The author also describes some more children: one is TV-addicted (his name is Mike Teavee), the other boy is sweets-addicted and he is eating all the time. In the story there are two girls, but both are so awful!
-According to the text all the five children find Golden tickets in their chocolate bars and are invited to visit the Wonka's Chocolate Factory. During the exciting excursion, children disappear one by one because of their bad habits, until only Charlie is left.
In conclusion Charlie and Wonka become great friends.
I found the text interesting, easy to understand and rather funny. I liked the story.
Glasgow is the largest city of Scotland, almost 1 million of people live there. It is situated 50 miles from Edinburgh near the western coast of Scotland.
The city was founded in the 6th century, for a long time it was not more than a cluster of cottages built on the river Clyde. Then the city began to develop, there was built the second university in Scotland, and it made Glasgow an important educational centre. When America was discovered it led to the increasing import of tobacco, sugar cotton, and a shipbuilding industry also began to grow. Soon Glasgow was one of the richest and most successful cities in Britain.
However, in the 20th century, things went wrong with the city. The city's heavy industry was destroyed under depression of the 1930's and many people lost their job.
Glasgow and its closest industrial towns stand on the Lancashire coal field. It dominates the whole region and every day many people go there to work. A great number of manufacturing industries is centred there. In the 18th century Glasgow was already a great port of manufacturing centre. Shipbuilding, iron, steel, machinery, chemicals, textile, clothing, marine and aero engines, road vehicles and machine tools are the leading industries in Glasgow.
