Dagestan, perhaps the richest in the diversity of landscapes region of Russia. From the Caspian Sea coast a few hours you can reach the snowy peaks of the Greater Caucasus, and see almost all variety of natural complexes temperate latitudes: sand and semi-deserts, marshes, plains and mountain meadows, grasslands, unique landscapes badlands and arid basins, deciduous and coniferous forests, snow fields and glaciers.
Accordingly, the great and the variety of animals and plants that inhabit these landscapes. It is about 4 thousand. Plant species, tens of thousands of invertebrates, nearly 100 species of mammals, over 350 species of birds, up to fifty species of reptiles and amphibians, and 80 forms of freshwater and saltwater fish. More than a dozen species of terrestrial vertebrates, such as the Syrian frog, cat snake, viper, Thick Plover, woodchat shrike, rufous-tailed scrub robin, horseshoe Mehely etc. Are found in Russia only in Dagestan. Not to mention the incomparably greater number of plants and invertebrates, which ranges in our country do not go beyond Dagestan.
