Нужно их послушать и понять разницу, где делается акцент на глагол "быть" - strong form (сильная форма, выделяется интонационно) , а где делается акцент на другое слово в предложении - weak form ( слабая форма, т.е. мы глагол be (в конкретном задании его формы was и were) не выделяем интонацией).
