Charles Dickens is one of the most popular English writers. He lived in 19th century and created some popular fictional characters such as Oliver Twist and Little Dorrit. Born in Portsmouth, Dickens left school to work in a factory when his father got to a debtors' prison. That's why he knew different aspects of life and he wrote about all of them. He edited a weekly journal for 20 years, wrote 15 novels, five novellas, hundreds of short stories and non-fiction articles. His best known works are The Pickwick Papers, The Adventures of Oliver Twist, Little Dorrit and many others.
