Gobustan (azerb. Qobustan), or Gobustan State Historical-Artistic Reserve (azerb. Qobustan dövlət tarixi-bədii qoruğu) - archaeological reserve in Azerbaijan, south of Baku, on the territory of the Karadag and Absheron district, which is a plain located between the south eastern slope of the Greater Caucasus Range and the Caspian Sea, and part of which is a cultural landscape of rock carvings, located on the territory of 537 hectares.
Gobustan monuments are divided into two groups: 1) rock paintings and 2) the ancient sites and other facilities. Gobustan mountains under the names Boyukdash, Kichikdash, Djingirdag, Shongardag and Shyhgaya focused evidence about the inhabitants of the region of the Stone Age and beyond - petroglyphs, parking rights, tombstones and other. There are also the remains of a large prehistoric cromlech which clearly traced. The drawings were found in three areas of rocky plateau and discovered here once inhabited caves traces of settlements and tombs indicate the dense populations of the area between the Upper Palaeolithic and the Middle Ages. In 2007, the cultural landscape of rock carvings of Gobustan was included in the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
