A boy who worked in a shop in a country town was sent by his master to the house of a rich customer with a valuable ring.
"Don`t open the box," the shopkeeper told the boy. "If you lose the ring you`ll be punish." The boy's way lay across a large park through which was flowing a stream. As the boy has crossed the bridge which was thrown across the stream he foolishly took the ring out of the box as he wanted to have a look at it. While he was doing it the ring slipped out of his hand and fell into the mud on the bank of the stream. He trшев to find it for a long time but couldn`t do it.
At last darkness made him stop his search. "If my master learns it he`ll kill me," thought the poor boy. He was so frightened that he decided that he would never return home. He had to run away and he became a sailor.
He spent many years in America and got very rich. But still he dreamed that one day he would go back to his home country. And so he did. He bought the estate with the stream into which he had dropped the ring as a boy.
One day when he and his friend were walking along the bank of the stream, which caused him so much trouble, they came to the place where he has lost the ring. He pushed his stick into the mud exclaiming, "I am absolutely sure that it is the exact spot where the ring was lost." And when he pulled the stick out he saw the ring hanging at the end of it.
