History of Kiev - the largest city of Ukraine - has at least 1,200 years . According to historical records , Kiev was founded by three brothers : Kiy, Scheck , Horeb, and their sister Lybid and named in honor of Kiya , old brother. The exact date of foundation of the city has not been established . The first Slavic settlement , according to some assumptions , existed on the territory of the modern city as early as the VI century .
